The problem I see here is that you're acting like immigration is a cultural issue. It's not. It's an economic issue. Mass immigration from poor countries to richer countries means that the supply of manual labor workers increases, which is reduces the bargaining power of non-union manual laborers, and even union ones if they get work as "scab" labor. It also means more people using already-overburdened social welfare programs. Right-wing parties have an answer to this problem: kick the immigrants out, and use racist fear-mongering demonization of them to morally justify that decision. Center-left parties don't have an answer to this problem.
In the US specifically, the imposition of long lockdowns by center-left politicians has not helped things: why vote for the party that will shut down for months your kids' school or the bar where you meet your friends, whenever a new scary disease makes the news?
These are bread and butter issues, that get recast by politicians as being only about racial hatred or, even more stupidly, "hating science". The class disdain is obvious.
